About Ocean20
South Africa

As part of South Africa’s G20 Presidency in 2025, Ocean20 brings together actors from all sections of society
to reshape our collective relationship with the ocean. With one of Africa’s longest coastlines and immense marine biodiversity, South Africa is uniquely positioned to lead this global conversation. Ocean20 South Africa is
rooted in collaboration—across government, research, business, and civil society—with a strong focus on
inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability.

Building on the Legacy of Brazil’s Ocean20

In 2024, under Brazil’s G20 Presidency, the inaugural Oceans20 was launched — a visionary platform placing the ocean at the heart of global sustainable development. South Africa proudly continues this momentum, championing ocean priorities for Africa and the Global South during its 2025 G20 Presidency.

Together, we move from vision to action.

What are
Ocean Actions?

Ocean Actions are targeted efforts designed to address critical ocean challenges in a practical and measurable way. They connect discussions to real solutions by encouraging collaboration, innovation, and resource sharing among different groups. The initiative aims to

advance ocean sustainability, with a focus on inclusivity and supporting Global South priorities, extending efforts beyond 2025.
